The ridged gourd (Luffa acutangula) is the unripe fruit of the luffa vine, which is eaten in Asian cuisines as a vegetable. When fully mature, the fruit fiber is spongy and absorbant, and is used as a household or bath sponge, but when young it can be used in a variety of dishes. Compare the smooth luffa, a closely related species.
