Piṇḍas are balls of cooked rice mixed with ghee and black sesame seeds offered to ancestors during Hindu funeral rites and as part of ceremonies to honor and seek blessings from deceased family members. The offering of pindas symbolized the nourishment of the departed souls.
n some traditions, multiple pindas are offered during the Shraddha ceremony, representing different generations of ancestors.
