Pearl millet (Cenchrus americanus, also known as Pennisetum glaucum), is the most widely cultivated variant of millet worldwide. It is mostly widely grown in India, where it known as bajra, sajje, or kambu, and in Africa, where it is grown in the Sahel region and in Namibia, where it is called mahangu.
In the United States, pearl millet is most commonly grown as a forage crop.
