The orange roughy (Hoplostethus atlanticus), also known as red roughy, slimehead and deep sea perch, is a deep, cold-water, very slow-growing fish. It has been discovered to have an extraordinarily long lifespan, of up to 250 years, which severely limits its ability to recover from commercial fishing.
