Mondavi Winery is a major Napa Valley wine brand, started by Robert Mondavi in 1966. It was the first major vineyard to open in Napa Valley after Prohibition.
Mondavi was an important player in the development of California's worldwide wine reputation, both by marketing their own products and by arranging events to demonstrate the quality of California wines to a wider audience. It was the first vineyard to name wines by their grapes, rather than by their region of origin, which eventually became the standard for all wines made in the Americas.
