Katuk (Sauropus androgynus), also called sweet leaf, star gooseberry, and sayur manis, is a shrub grown in some tropical regions as a leaf vegetable. It is native to south and southeast Asia, and is used in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam, where the root tips and leaves are used in stir fries and soups.
Overdosing on katuk leaves and juice holds a risk of lung damage, due to its high concentrations of the alkaloid papaverine.
