Hobotee is an American version of South African bobotie, which was brought to Savannah, Georgia by South African emigrants. The American version, like the original, is a casserole of spiced and sometimes fruited meat topped with egg, but it preserves an older tradition of preparing individual ramekins garnished with bay leaf or lemon slivers.
