Gateau Président, or President Cake, is a French cake created in 1975 by Maurice Bernachon on the occasion of the presentation of the Legion of Honor to chef Paul Bocuse by the French president Valéry Giscard d'Estaing. It is a hazelnut praline cake, filled with candied cherries, and topped with chocolate shavings.
