The Fuji is one of the most popular apple cultivars in the world today. It has creamy white flesh, with a sweet, almost honeyed flavor.
The Fuji was developed at the Tohuku Research Station in Fujisaki, Aomori Precinct, Japan, in 1939, by crossing Red Delicious and Ralls Janet (also known as Kokkou). It entered commercial cultivation in 1962. The apple is in fact named for the town of Fujisaki, rather than the more romantic Mount Fuji.
