In cocktail bartending, building is the process of pouring the ingredients for a cocktail into the serving glass directly, without using a mixing cup. A typical ordering of a built drink would be ice, then liquor, then modifiers such as juice, liqueur, or syrups, and then a soda or other mixer to fill the glass. A [float (cocktail)|float] may be added as the top layer once the rest of the drink is built.
