Black Sea Bass is a true bass, found on the Atlantic coast. It has a firm texture, with delicate flavor and lean, white flesh. They are fairly small and can be prepared and served whole, if descaled.

Conservation status

Black sea bass is farmed, and when these farms use indoor recirculating tanks it is ranked a BEST CHOICE. When these farms do not have wastewater treatment it is ranked a GOOD ALTERNATIVE. Wild populations are robust in the US Atlantic, and black sea bass caught there with bottom trawls or handlines is also a GOOD ALTERNATIVE. Pot-caught sea bass is ranked as AVOID due to bycatch concerns.
