Amish cuisine is the customary cuisine of the Amish, a group of traditionalist Anabaptist Christians with Swiss and Alsatian roots who are now concentrated in the Pennsylvania and the central Midwest of the United States.
Amish cuisine is related to, but not identical to, the cuisine of the Pennsylvania Dutch, a population of mostly German immigrants whose history is interwoven with Amish populations for much of American history.
Amish cuisine features simple and traditional dishes, prepared in non-electric kitchens. Home-baked bread and home-churned butter are common.
Some characteristic dishes include chicken pot pie made with flat noodles instead of pastry crust; pork and sauerkraut; scrapple; Amish pasta salad; apple butter; potato salad; and church spread, a peanut butter and marshmallow creme spread commonly used as a condiment on bread. Amish friendship bread, a sourdough that, by tradition, must be started with a culture given to you by a friend, is another characteristic baked good.
